Our Path & God's Purpose

To those searching,

What’s your purpose in life?

Literally, why are you alive?

Some people would argue that they were born to have a stethoscope around their necks, others to crunch numbers. But is this really why God gives us the grace to roll out of bed each morning?

Think about it.

Is my whole purpose in life to become a doctor? Is my whole purpose in life even to be a good dad (one day)? Better yet is my whole life meant to arrive at the point in which I am told, “Well done my good and faithful servant?” All of these can be good things, but ultimately it’s not what I was created for, nor was it what you were created for.

It always amazes me that when someone asks what your purpose is in life we automatically default to describing what we want to do in the future. We overlook that our professions aren’t our purposes but merely avenues in which our purpose can be reached.

So once more I ask what is your purpose in life?

Literally, why are you alive?

Why has God granted you the number of years that he already has?

Why will God grant you tomorrow?

I’m not answering this one for you. I believe this is something you, like Jacob in the Bible, must wrestle with through the night. I would like to know your thoughts however; for I believe that if you can answer this question then you will unbind yourself from the chains of doubts, uncertainty, sorrow, etc. Only by knowing the reason for your existence will things such as love, joy, peace, and righteousness become not just lofty aspirations but tangible fruits.

So… Why are you alive?

Merely,
Chris Gerac
